The premise of this beginning quilt-making workshop is that if you can learn to sew a few a units, those units can be combined into an infinite number of traditional quilt blocks.  Starting with the basic nine-patch, we’ll progress through the half-square triangle, quarter-square triangle and square-in-a-square.  You’ll leave the class with a small wall hanging or table runner.  color and fabric selections will be explored during the first session. ** Participants should have have sewing experience.

Supply list:

3-in-1 Color Tool, a sewing machine will be provided for class-but feel free to bring your own, since you’ll be comfortable with in.  Neutral thread, medium grey or tan and if you’re bringing your machine, have a couple of bobbins wound.  We will be using a rotary cutter and mat and straight edge ruler. (If you bring your own-please make sre they have your name on each!)  If you’re new to rotary cutting bring fabric to practice cutting on–a good half yard or so will be fine.

Fabric will be chosen in the first class.  You’ll need 1 yard of the main focus fabric, 4-6 fat quarters or coordinating fabrics, ranging from light to dard.

Basic sewing supplies; pins, scissors, seam ripper, etc.

This is a four week class taught by Joyce Ponder from Oxford, Ohio who has been designing and creating quilts for over 15 years.  Her quilts have been exhibited at the greater Hamilton Art Exhibition and the American Quilter’s Society exhibit in Paducah, Kentucky.  Joyce also teaches quilt-making in the Miami University Craft Summer and ILR programs.
