Checker Open House and New New Things

Hi Quilters,

My gosh, the temps fell and it sure feels like fall. Makes me want to plant mums and buy pumpkins. Nix on the fall housecleaning though. We’ll just add Sept. dust to Aug. dust and no one will notice. It’s not like it changes color in the fall.

It was another exciting week at the Nook! We went to the Open House at Checker! Checker is a wholesale distribution company located in Toledo, Ohio. In the fall, they bring in lots of authors and people who develop gadgets to showcase them for quilt shops. A trade show in other words. We got to meet Orion Burns, son of Eleanor, who was there with the new book from Quilt in a Day called Orion’s Star. Our version of the quilt will be on display sometime this coming week. We got six copies of the new book signed by Orion and Eleanor and they will be given to the first six people who sign up for the class. By the way, Orion is a lovely man who was just very gracious and polite to all the fans who wanted to tell him how wonderful his mom is. No guy his age can really enjoy hugging all those women my age (and body build). He covers well though.

We also met and talked with Nancy Ziemann, the star of PBS’ “Sewing with Nancy.” She also was just lovely and was demonstrating a new way of making purses. She made it look so easy that of course, we’re bringing the ideas back for you in an upcoming class. For those of you that are curious, she is a very nice and down-to-earth person who was happy to talk to anyone who stopped at her booth.

These were only two of the many demonstrators who were there. We also met McKenna Ryan of Pine Needles fame and Karen Montgomery who developed that popular tablerunner pattern for the 60 degree ruler. Not to mention of course, that we all had fun just being on the trip and getting and sharing new ideas. We really missed Pam, though. She volunteered to stay home and keep the store open which was really nice and I’m sure we all owe her big time!

Also, this past week we received a beautiful new line of Buggy Barn fabric that has a fall theme, but will easily blend in with Kansas Troubles or even Thimbleberries. Be sure to take a look while you’re in looking at the new line of Kansas Troubles fabric. It’s really great! Personally, I’m liking this line better than the last two. Come check it out!

The Diamond Club designs from Anita Goodesign are in and ready for pick-up and there are new designs for fall from them as well. There is a really beautiful Vintage Fall CD with quilting designs and lovely fall designs that are digitized to look like crewel embroidery. The stitches are placed one by one.

As you can see, we have lots of reasons for you to come and visit us. Don’t forget that fall classes will be starting soon and they are all listed on the web page. Hard copies will be delivered from the printer soon.

Enjoy the day and we’ll talk again soon,

Mary
