Fall Colors and Fall Classes

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all are having a great Labor Day. The last days of Summer are my favorite because they are always slow and lazy as everything begins to wind down and turn into lovely Fall.

In the next few weeks we however, are getting ready for our Fall schedule of classes to begin. First new class of the season is the Batting Buddy, followed later by the Embroidery Workshop Placemat. See our website for details. Both the classes are lots of fun and you’ll learn new techniques. By the way, the class schedules are back from the printer and are ready to be picked up at the Nook.

New fabric is coming in every day and new patterns to go with it. However, using an old favorite pattern and playing with new fabric is also very satisfying. Diana is doing a Log Cabin class on Sept. 26 and it will be an all day affair. The Log Cabin block is one of my favorites because it can look so different depending on the fabrics you choose and settings you use for the blocks. I personally have made several log cabin quilts and every so often I just have to make another. They all look very different. I really recommend this class to beginners or to those who just need a quilty gift for the holidays or any occasion.

The Stitching Nook has also become a drop-off point for Project Linus quilts and we have all the details and requirements available in a brochure that can be picked up at the Nook. This is a wonderful charity to be involved with and it gives you a reason to sew (like we need that!) But really, in times of trouble and distress, is there anything more comforting than wrapping up in a cozy quilt? It’s a really tangible way for quilters to extend a hand (or hug) of understanding and comfort.

Well, enough for now, I’m going outside in the lovely weather to plant mums and consider just how I can use all the great colors of fall in a new quilt. My Foot of the Month quilt might just have some fall colors……

Mary
