Rolling Along
Hi Everyone,
November 1st and the panic begins!! There’s still time to make some great Christmas gifts though. Little Glam Bags, pillow cases, purses, candle mats and lots of other stuff. Not to mention that a jelly roll or layer cake quilt could easily be done before the fat man squeezes down the chimney.
Speaking of jelly roll quilts, there is a great book out there called “Rolling Along” by Nancy Martin. It’s a collection of quilts that can use jelly rolls or better yet, scraps. Diana already has one quilt top finished in MODA colors (at the quilter’s as we speak) and one that is done in bright kid-friendly colors. This is one of those books that definitely has more than one quilt in it that you will want to make. I won’t lie, on some of them I had to picture different colors, but the patterns were certainly still attractive. Check it out when next you are in the store.
You know, there is a ruler on the market called the Stashbuster and it is 24″ long and 5″ wide. It has marks for 21/2″, 5″ and other wonderful measurements. I use this a lot. When I’m cutting out a quilt, I just go ahead and cut the remnants into usable pieces and store them. It isn’t long until you have painlessly cut out enough for the biggest part of a scrap quilt. I also use it when I’m cutting binding. A ruler with only one line that happens to be just the right size makes cutting awfully easy. It just does away with the extra clutter of all the other lines. This is a winner and I really recommend it if you are drowning in scraps that need to be uniform and organized.
Ok, two great tips for making quilts from the scraps that you have lying around the house. Put those babies to work and make something wonderful out of something that’s taking up space.
Enjoy these wonderful warm days and the last of the colors. I admit this is my favorite time of year. Hope you all remembered to “fall” back today and enjoyed that extra hour of sleep!
Until next time,
Mary
