bad weather, good news Feb. 21

Hi Everyone

Wow, another week in the winter wonderland known as Indiana. Let’s see, massive snow, incredible fog and rain. I’m sensing something Biblical here. Anyway, we apologize to anyone who was inconvenienced by our many closings this week. We weren’t partying I assure you. The Shop Hop has been extended another week, though, but the stores will resume their regular hours. Check our website if you’re not sure what those are. Really, whenever the snow or ice or fog or monsoons strike—–check the website to see if we were able to make it. I have new sympathy for the Olympic bobsledders!

The new classes are all up on the website, so you might give those a look. There are some new ones and some repeats of old favorites. We have a new instructor this time around and so we have a new perspective on piecing and quilting! Her name is Betsy Kirk and we are so looking forward to her classes. The models are on display in the store and the books are coming. The weekend buzz was all enthusiam, so you may want to sign up for these early. Speaking of classes, if you want to clear out some stash before you begin all those new quilts, (and to justify buying all that fabulous new fabric I’ve been telling you about,) don’t forget Diana’s stashbuster class. The class next Saturday has several openings. This is an excellent opportunity to bust your stash. By the way, I’ve decided rather than saying I can’t buy more fabric until I use up what I have, I’m just saying that I’ve given up telling myself “no” for Lent. Hey! I’m giving up something?!

For those of you who have had the free-motion quilting class cancelled twice– it is on the schedule two times in the next class schedule. I think rather than re-schedule it for the third time, I’ll just have you pick one of the times on the new schedule and we’ll do it then. Surely by March the weather gods will be appeased and we’ll have no more cancellations.

We are putting up some new models in the store and please stop by to see them. We have a new raggy quilt that was completely cut out on the accu-cut, we have a cute new baby quilt featuring sheep, a new table-runner from Art to Heart, some new purses and of course, the new models from Betsy Kirk. I’m sure I’m leaving some out, but all the more reason to come by. You know, I mentioned the new baby quilt, and if you’re looking for a new project that doesn’t take a long time, baby quilts are great. Not having a new baby in your life? Doesn’t matter, there are many charities that would love to have them. We take in quilts for the Linus charity at the store. Anyone who has seen a little one cuddle into a quilt knows that they are important for more than just warmth. It’s pretty heart-warming to think you can provide that for someone. That’s why you’ll always be able to find cute baby/child fabric at the Nook.

Ok, before we reach book length here, I’ll jump off and get back to my sewing machine. Hope you are getting lots done while the weather is awful. Just think how much prettier those spring flowers will look after all this snow (and future mud).

Until later,

mary
