Sunday Birding Mar.7

Hi Everyone,

Robins are back and red-winged blackbirds (personal fav.) are singing. Yep, Spring is on the way! Went birding this morning and saw wonderful things at the Reservoir. Lots of geese, sandhill cranes, buffleheads and the odd coot or two. The old coot or two also.

The worst thing about Jan. and Feb. for me, is the lack of color outside. I think that’s part of the reason we all like cardinals. They’re like a little living flame that goes from tree to tree brightening things up. I know my quilts are always brighter this time of year. New fabric always makes me feel better as well. The new line of MODA Kansas Troubles is in and it is called Butterfly Garden and it is beautiful. Lots of rich, deep colors that just make me happy. Got the bundle, now to decide if I start a quilt, look at it or just roll around in it. It’s that good. There are a few new batiks in also– a couple of those hard to find neutrals. One of them is going to look so good in a “Hop to It” block.

Diana has made some really pretty table mats out of a Holly Taylor panel and just a couple of co-ordinates. They are hanging above the window to the pattern/holiday room. They are really pretty and not hard to make as I understand it. Very Springy! We also changed the models in the pattern room around so stop by and take a look and get insprired.

For all you Nancy Halvorsen (Art to Heart) fans, there is a new book on the way called “Garden Song”. It celebrates flowers and things found in the garden ( if we’re talking my garden, there had better be lots of thistle patterns). It looks like lots of towels and banners and such. Oh, you know it’ll be cute!

Don’t forget the sew-in days for pillowcases coming up later in the month or just drop some by if you don’t have time for a fun-filled afternoon sewing with friends. Subtle guilt trip there, but seriously they go to a good cause and I’m sure there are many people living in shelters who would like to know that someone cares. Burn up some stash, help someone feel good about the world and make yourself feel good as well. What a win-win-win situation!

Looks like rainy days ahead, so sort out the projects and get sewing to beat the blahs. Until next time,

Mary
